Patricia Sykes is a poet and librettist whose work has been described as “leaping over boundaries. Her first collection of poetry, Wire Dancing, arose out of her experiences as a performer with the Women’s Circus and was shortlisted for the Anne Elder and Mary Gilmore Awards for 2000. Her second collection, Modewarre - Home Ground, was shortlisted for The Judith Wright Award 2005. Patricia has received new work grants from The Australia Council and Arts Victoria and has read and performed her work in Australia and overseas. Her first collaboration with Australian composer Liza Lim, Mother Tongue, premiered at the 2005 Festival d’Automne in Paris. In 2006 she was the Asialink writer in residence at Rimbun Dahan, Malaysia, where she began work on a libretto The Navigator, her second collaboration with Liza Lim.
