Australian born Barrie Kosky is recognised as one of the most exciting and creative directors and writers of his generation. His productions span the fields of opera, theatre and contemporary music theatre. Based in Europe, his 2007/08 productions include a revival of his production of Orfeo at the Berlin Staatsoper, and new productions of Iphigenie en Tauride and Kiss me Kate at the Komische Oper Berlin, Peter Grimes at the Hannover Opera and Mahagony in Essen. His production of The Coronation of Poppea from the Schauspielhaus in Vienna was mounted at the 2007 Edinburgh Festival and his production of The Tell Tale Heart was a huge success at last year’s Melbourne International Arts Festival. In Australia, Barrie has worked with all the major theatre and opera companies, most recently with the Sydney Theatre Company for The Lost Echo, an epic eight-hour adaptation of Ovid’s Metamorphoses. From 1990 to 1997 he was artistic director of Gilgul Theatre Company and was the artistic director of the 1996 Adelaide Festival. Most recently he was appointed artistic director of the Komische Oper Berlin for five years from 2012.
