Guido Barbieri, who was born in Parma in 1956, is one of the music critics of the daily “La Repubblica. Since 1982 he has permanently collaborated with the RAI – Radio Tre, for which he is currently radio host and music consultant. Since 1985 he has also been teaching in State conservatoires and is currently the holder of the History of Music and Musical Aesthetics chair at the conservatory “A. Scontrino of Trapani. Between the 1980s and the 1990s, Guido was music critic for Rome’s “Il Messagero and Venice’s “Il Gazzettino and he edited the quarterly music culture publication “Suono Sud. In 2001, for the centenary of Verdi’s death, he curated and presented the entire cycle of works by Giuseppe Verdi for RaiSat and he recently collaborated to the editing of the “Grande Storia della Musica (Great History of Music), which was published by “Espresso-La Repubblica. In 2005 he was awarded the prize “Premio Feronia for music critique. He has published two books (“Haendel. The life and works published by Newton Compton and “W. A. Mozart’s The marriage of Figaro. A guide for listening published by Gremese) and currently collaborates with Italy’s main musical institutions for the organization of conferences and concert hall programmes. He has written a number of the entries about music in the Treccani encyclopaedia and he permanently collaborates with specialized publications and record companies. He is currently writing a monography dedicated to Edgard Varèse for the publisher L’Epos of Palermo. He has written many theatre and radio shows about musical topics (Gesualdo da Venosa, Farinelli, Varèse, Ives, Segovia) and a number of librettos for different Italian composers (among them Ennio Morricone, Adriano Guarnieri, Luigi Ceccarelli, Laura Bianchini, Michelangelo Lupone). In 2006 he signed the idea and dramaturgy of the project “Portopalo. Nomi su tombe senza corpi, which was directed by Giorgio Barberio Corsetti with music by Riccardo Nova. In 2007 he devised and created the show “Al Kamandjati (The violin player) based on a text by Amira Hass and music by Franghiz Ali Zadeh. That same year his radio-drama “La corda spezzata, dedicated to Terezin’s musical life in a concentration camp, took part in the 2007 Prix d’Italia. Recently he signed the dramaturgy of three different plays: “Nessun luogo in collaboration with the italian actor Marco Paolini and the cellist Mario Brunello, “Naufragio di terra with music by Lucia Ronchetti and “Three Mile Island with music by Andrea Molino. Until 2011, in collaboration with Oscar Pizzo, he has curated the Contemporanea Festival promoted by the "Foundation Musica per Roma at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome. In 2009 in collaboration with Alessio Allegrini he founded the Human Rights Orchestra (HRO). He is currently Music Consultant of the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari and Artistic Director of the “Società dei Concerti B.Barattelli in L’Aquila and the “Società dei Concerti G.Michelli in Ancona.
